Eczema is the most common dermatological condition seen in infants and young children. Eczema can be caused by a Biotin deficiency. Biotin is a vitamin B complex that is not present in a mother’s natural milk and must be replenished daily to maintain healthy hair and skin.

Massage Eczema Care over baby’s body daily, immediately following a bath or anytime dryness occurs.

The following are some tips and advice on how to take care of your baby’s skin.

Make it a point that your baby’s skin is does not become too dry. Visit the doctor and ask how to habitually bathe your baby. Most experts believe that daily bathing is very useful especially for babies who have eczema. Keep the water warm, but not too warm for very warm water tends to dry out the skin faster.

Always use a mild soap. And remember to always wash your baby at the end of each bath so your baby won’t be sitting in soapy water. Once you take out your baby off the tub, just pat her skin to dry. Don’t rub. Afterwards, apply a moderate amount of moisturizer or an ointment. Products such as lotions and cream helps in “sealing in” your baby’s body moisture.

Let your baby’s skin breathe. Do not overheat your baby’s skin by dressing her in natural materials such as cotton. Refrain from using wool and other abrasive materials that can irritate your baby’s very sensitive skin. Moreover, use soft and odourless detergent for washing your baby’s clothing and bedding. And finally, do not use fabric softeners.

Sudden temperature shifts makes eczema even worse. So remember not to let your baby get too hot, then cool down at once and vice versa.

Refrain your baby from scratching. She will probably try to find relief in scratching or by rubbing her face next to the sheets while sleeping. But then, scratching and rubbing will promote much irritation and may even inflame her skin and make matters worse. By this, make use of your softest sheets available for her crib as well as keep your baby’s nails short.

Should a flare-up occur, apply regular cool compresses to the infected area during the day followed a moisturizer.

For the pure baby eczema care that most parents are seeking, there are some things that may be done in the way of prevention. For instance, avoiding such irritants as pet dander, household dust, cigarette smoke and sudden temperature changes will go a long way toward preventing an inflammation cycle. Foods that should be avoided include eggs, cow’s milk, soy and peanuts. Breastfeeding mothers report less occurrence of eczema; however, a nursing mother should avoid cow’s milk in her own diet for best results.

ella gets eczema EVERYWHERE!!!!
we tried baby oil (doc.s recommendation) which made it worse!!
then i tried lucas’s paw paw lotion it didn’t make it worse but it didn’t make it better either
finally it was recomended by a nurse that we try sorbolene cream (with 10% glycerine) and it worked wounders in just 2 days the eczema was almost gone:smiliedance:
we were also told not to use johnson’s bath oil (even though it was the one they used in the maternity ward) so we switched to hamiltons dry skin treatment oil, i don’t really know if it’s made a difference or not
jess

I have been using Dermeze Ointment as a moisturiser and it works really well for my DD. She’s had eczema since she was 2 months old all over her face and body. Her face is the worst. I have tried Gaia Skin Soothing Lotion for about 4 weeks which reduces the redness but it was too drying for skin. Ended up using steroid (Betnovate on her body and Egocort on her face). Cleared up within a few days but as soon as I stopped using the steroid, a few flare ups started again. I didn’t want to keep using steroid so I tried “Infant Cream – Apis Meliferra” (www.beewild.com (http://www.beewild.com)) for 4 weeks and worked better than Gaia but still drying for her skin (flaking badly) – cleared up the body but face/arms/legs were slowly getting better. Had to stop using the product as DD had a small lump on her shoulder (infection) so took her to Dr and had to go on antibiotics for 10 days. Went back on steroid as DD has become so irritable and unhappy:(. She is constantly wanting to scratch her ears and rub her eyes. I am all for natural products but found it’s too slow of process and can’t bear to see her suffer anymore. I have to yet to find a natural product that fully works. Will be seeing a dermatologist and hope to be able to identify her allergies and better solution to manage her condition. I have heard about homeopathy. Does this really work? Can it be combined with the use of steroids?
I am so frustrated and stressed out to the point that my eczema flared up on my neck and face (don’t usually have these..only when I am really stressed:banghead:). She is my first bub and constantly worrying about her. In 5.5 mths, she’s already had 2 infections (had to go on antibiotics) and back on steroids!!
