My daughter seems to develop a diaper rash right out of the tub. Her bottom is fine before the bath, but once she’s out, her bottom looks raw in some areas. I’ve used two different baby body washes… and I make sure I don’t wash too roughly, and the water is not too warm… what is causing this?
1. Aveeno for Babies is really nice stuff, especially if baby has dry skin. If baby has cradle cap (dry scalp), you can use baby oil and a soft brush to gently remove dry skin from the head. Johnson & Johnson Naturals is good, as well, for bathtime and to keep baby’s skin moisturized. You don’t need to wash baby’s hair every day. Once or twice a week is enough, since they don’t really get dirty. Bathtimes nightly can help with setting a schedule/routine. Give baby a bath right before bed, especially with lavender-scented baby wash, and it’ll help them sleep a little better.

2. To prevent diaper rash, make sure you change baby’s diaper consistently. Their skin is really delicated, and just being in a soaked diaper for 10 minutes can turn the skin red. Balmex has a creamy ointment that works well, or you can go to a CVS/Pharmacy and pick up Paladin. I have a lot of customers that buy it, and swear by it! Hubby says A&D ointment works well, too.

3. Since the FDA removed all cold medications for infants/toddlers from the market, all you can really do is use a humidifier or vaporizer; make sure baby’s nose is suctioned out. Any nurse or doctor will tell you the same thing. If the mucous from the nose is turning green, get baby to doctor ASAP! Could be a sign of an infection.

Hope this information helps!

I bathed my babies everyday with the Johnsons baby wash, I used it as shampoo too and I lotioned them every day with baby magic, Love the baby smell. As far as diaper rashes, change often and clean bottom well. a little powder will help. Creams used to make my son get a rash and the only thing that helped him were the pampers rash care wipes and powder.

For a cold, try a humidifier but definatly consult the Dr. befor ANY medications are given, they also have the vaporizer baby bath, you can try that as well.
