Eczema is a term used to describe a skin disorder that causes scaling, itching, thickening of the skin, and is generally located on the face, elbows, knees and arms.

Around ten to twenty percent of babies have eczema during their first year. By the age of 2 years old many improve and stop being troubled by eczema.

An eczema sufferer who has a young baby with the condition researched the information provided on this site. The aim of this site is to provide a great source of information on baby
eczema for 0-12 month year olds and its treatments.

Eczema symptoms include itchy, red, and dry skin caused by inflammation. It’s most commonly found in children, although adults can get it. There are different types of eczema. The most common is called atopic dermatitis.

Prevention and treatment of eczema in the babies

Prevention can be very well achieved by keeping personal hygiene well. One has to keep baby’s body clean. Herbal disinfectant powder is to be sprinkled over the baby’s body. The clothes of the baby are to be changed and the material is to be very smooth (preferably 100% cotton).

Note down if your baby gets the rashes over the body after eating certain food. This food is then considered as allergic to the baby and therefore is to be avoided. Eczema can be treated by giving topical ointment and internal medicines that is anti-histamine. Some of the severe cases are treated with steroids but with extra precautions and perfect doses.

Ayurveda believes that these conditions are to be treated with the herbs having action on blood purification and Pitta Dosha pacification. Some of the herbs like shatavari, Ashwagandha, sariva, manjishtha etc purify the blood and gives relief from skin problems.

Ayurveda also says that decoction of certain herbs like neem, haridra, patola is to be mixed with the bathing water and baby should be given bath in it. This will check out not only the skin rashes but they are also good for any type of fungal infection over the body.

Treatment for baby eczema varies.

One other treatment for baby eczema may be pro biotic tablets. These contain bacteria which are live microbial organisms which are found in the digestive tract. They restrain the growth of possibly harmful bacteria while influencing the immune system. At the same time it strengthens the protective barrier that lines the digestive tract.

The basic treatment that needs to be given to the children is to wash them well in lukewarm and not hot water. If the water is hot then after the bath it may lead to the release of histamines on the skin which may further lead to more itching. Just after the baby is bathed he or she must be moisturized. Do not use any soap or if you do use, then use the mildest soap possible for bathing the baby. Care must be taken to see to it that the baby is moisturized within 3 minutes of taking bath. This will help retain all the moisture in the body itself. Various creams such as Nivea, Ponds, etc are available in the market these days. Apply any one of these for proper treatment for baby eczema.

At the places where rash has occurred, you can apply topical anti biotic ointments. This helps prevent infections. If infections occur then oral medicines also need to be taken. In areas where a flare up has occurred, you can apply anti inflammatory prescriptive medicines. To understand the amount of cream that should be applied on the affected area the concerned doctor should be consulted. There are many other measures that need to be followed in the treatment for baby eczema. None of the eczema allergens should be allowed to trigger. Also the baby should be clothed only in loose cotton clothing.
